Mythic Structure for Writers....
See why The Writer's Journey by Christopher Vogler
has become an international best seller.
The Writer's Journey explores the powerful relationship
between mythology and storytelling in a clear, concise style that's
made this book a true classic for screenwriters and playwrights.
It also provides valuable information about basic screenplay structure and character archetypes. After reading this book, you'll truly understand the art of
storytelling. Required reading for movie executives, fiction and
non-fiction writers, scholars, and fans of pop culture all over the
world.
While working in the Disney
story department Christopher Vogler wrote
an influential seven-page studio memo, "A Practical Guide to The
Hero with a Thousand Faces," on the myth-inspired Hero's
Journey pattern –
every story has a hero, and that hero goes on a journey. Based on the
work of Joseph Campbell,
the memo became part of Hollywood story legend and formed the
foundation of his book. The idea of a set of useful mythological
storytelling paradigms (i.e., The
Hero's Journey) and
step-by-step guidelines to plot and character development was quickly
accepted by Hollywood, and his book, The Writer's Journey,
graces the bookshelves of many studio heads.
This updated and revised third edition of The Writer's Journey
provides new insights and observations from Christopher
Vogler's ongoing work on mythology's influence on stories,
movies, and man himself.
