About the Play:
Mixed Nuts is a full-length a romantic comedy by Nancy
Manera and Simon J.
Donoghue. What happens when a
shy, aspiring writer from the Midwest comes to the Big Apple in
search of fame and fortune? Engaged but not in love, and aspiring for
fame, Michael Caldwell listens to the voices in his head and heads to
New York City, leaving his Ohio hometown and a fiancee far behind.
Mixed Nuts explores
the conflict between the inner voices of doubt and the aspirations of
the heart.
Mixed Nuts is an uproarious and uplifting comedy that
follows the adventures of Michael Caldwell, who flees his predictable
and sheltered life in the Midwest to move to New York City in a quest
to become a prominent writer. A series of hilarious encounters
unfolds as he befriends several unconventional residents of the
dilapidated apartment house that he moves into. Among them are
Marshall Ryan, a
commercial actor who specializes in portraying inanimate objects;
Tanya Romanov, a Russian ballerina on the lam from the secret-police; and Philomena Della
Vecchia, a wisecracking, beautiful actress. Phil
may be the woman of Michael's dreams – if he can just keep her quiet
long enough to tell her. To retain his own sanity, Michael retreats
to his fantasies, only to find that the world of his imagination is
even more nerve-wracking than the reality surrounding him!
This witty production, authored by Nancy Manera and Simon
J. Donoghue, will delight audiences with its laugh-out-loud
humour.
Mixed Nuts has
become a popular choice for school and community theatre productions.
