The monologues in Great Monologues in Dialect for Young Actors: volume two are taken from the five major dialect regionalisms to be studied: British, Irish, Latina/o, African Continent, and American South. While the plays represented in the selections can use the dialects of the regions in question, it is also possible that no dialect is required by the author. The monologue selections are meant to serve as an in-depth study into the literature, environment, culture, and language of a region.
What people say:
"The Monologues are great choices for actors either learning a dialect or
who need to present one for an audition. The games take a lot of the
fear of 'doing it right' out of early exploration. I have added to the
book to my syllabus as highly recommended and often use the work in my
teaching." — Lester Thomas Shane, Voice and Speech Teacher, Pace University
"Looking over the content of this new volume makes my heart sing, for she
has continued her own personal quest to find the finest dramatic
literature for her own work and now makes it available in this exciting
Volume II. I consider her volume THE source for dialect work with young
people. You won't be disappointed." — Craig Slaight, Director Emeritus, Young Conservatory, American Conservatory Theater
